After 4 months, I though it was about time I gave an update on my experience so far of Sky HD. After purchasing a 'HD-Ready' panasonic LCD TV, I thought it was only fair to order HD to complement it. Installation was painless, partly due to there already being a digital dish hanging on the wall of our house, but the engineers arrived on time, and were quick at efficient at setting everything up.
The HD box itself has an updated design to the old Sky+ box, with is black out casing, with silver highlighting along the front. Specs include a 160gig hard-drive, and pretty much all the output connections you will ever need.
Now down the important part, HD. I will freely admit there isn't that many HD channels being broadcast, but when you do watch the ones available there is a obvious improvement. Pictures are sharp, rich and very smooth. The main two HD channels I watch are SkyOne HD and Discovery HD. They both have a good selection of programmes, and you can easily waste an evening flicking between them :-).
We haven't had any major issues with HD at all, apart from the Set-top box crashing a couple of times. I think this was probably more to do with me letting the hard-drive get rather full though. As soon as I emptied it out, normal service was resumed. The remote has a very good range, and the user interface is easy to follow, and ore importantly very responsive.
All in all, I would say if you are thinking about getting Sky, definately consider Sky HD if you are a new customer. It costs £10 a month on top of your channel package charge, but that includes Sky+, so if you want Sky+, get Sky HD instead as it would cost any more. However, if your already a Sky+ customer, I wouldn't bother upgrading just yet, as there just arn't enough HD broadcasts to make it worth you shelling out for the new set-top box.
